Mamata sustains injury after her chopper makes emergency landing

Kolkata, June 27 (UNI) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee sustained waist and leg injuries while disembarking from a chopper that was forced to make an emergency landing at a North Bengal Army base on Tuesday following inclement weather, officials said.

Banerjee, visibly in pain, was rushed to the state-run SSKM Hospital on her return to the city from Bagdogra for a check-up and subsequently underwent an MRI.

After addressing a party rally at a place in Jalpaiguri, the state's ruling Trinamool Congress chairperson was flying on a private helicopter on her way to Bagdogra airport to catch a flight to Kolkata when the weather condition suddenly deteriorated.

with the copter flying above the Baikanthapur jungle, the pilot was forced to make an emergency landing at the Army air base on Sevoke Road around noon, sources added.

Banerjee got injured while disembarking from the chopper under precarious conditions.

Meanwhile, state Governor C V Ananda Bose expressed his relief that Banerjee was safe.

Bose also enquired about her safety and well-being.
